Google Doodles are the modified versions of Google logo used specially for holidays, birthdays of famous people and major events. The Burning Man Festival of 1998 witnessed the birth of the first Google doodle, since then, we would have a little extra surprise besides chocolates and roses on Valentines Day, or a big turkey meal on Thanks Giving day when visited Google.
The designer of these little something has always been Dennis Hwang.
Designing a Google doodle is not an easy task. It has to be creative, easy to understand and at the same time maintain its Google style. They are not just logos, they are pieces of art. Check out the doodles for those holidays and see what has changed along the years and how Hwang’s playing with the details.

Google doodle lights Thomas Edison's 164th b'day
California, Feb 11:
Just two days after featuring a special interactive Doodle on French science fiction novelist, Jules Gabriel Verne, internet giant Google has depicted another Doodle on its homepage to pay tribute to Thomas Alva Edison, the great inventor who filled our lives with light.
As the world celebrates the 164th birthday of Thomas Edison, Google paid tribute to this greatest inventor by featuring a special Doodle on Friday, Feb 11. This time Google has selected some of his famous inventions as the Doodle.
The Edison Doodle showcases his major inventions like the electric bulb, the phonograph and the kinetoscope among others. The online search firm never forgets to depict its name, 'GOOGLE', on the Doodle. A close observation of the Doodle reveals the consonants of the world's most popular search engine morphed on several instruments that had been invented by Edison.
Edison was born in Ohio, USA during the year 1847. During his education, he made functional models of a steam engine, a steam-powered sawmill and also experimented with chemicals. During his childhood he worked as a newspaper boy and a weekly newspaper publisher. Edison later also worked as a telegraph operator.
Edison invented the phonograph in 1877, which made him famous throughout Menlo Park, New Jersey. Later, Edison also invented the first industrial research lab at Menlo Park, which he called 'The Invention Factory.' His other inventions include the electric light bulb, the kinetoscope, the projector, the motion picture camera etc.
Edison is credited with several patents for his 1093 inventions.
Edison died at West Orange, USA, in 1931 at the age of 84. The glowing bulb on the Google Doodle will always keep the memories of this genius alight in our lives.
Google Doodle Celebrates Valentine's Day with Pop Artist Robert Indiana
BARCELONA - Google is celebrating Valentine's Day with a doodle from pop artist Robert Indiana.
The company's homepage logo has been transformed into a piece of pop art, reminiscient of Indiana's famous "Love" piece. The image, featuring the "L" and "O" on top of the "V" and "E" with the "O" tilted to the right, was featured as an 8-cent stamp in 1973, and inspired a number of different multi-colored serigraph/silk screen versions, as well as larger statues.
As a result, Google's logo today features the "Goo" on top of the "gle" in the company's logo, with the first "O" shaped like a heart and the second "O" tilted to the right like Indiana's iconic "Love" work.
Indiana, born Robert Clark in 1928, has created a number of different versions of his love statute in a variety of of different languages. During the 2008 presidential election, he created one for Barack Obama that replaced "Love" with "Hope."
Click on the logo for more details about Valentine's Day. Named after Saint Valentine, the celebration was established by Pope Gelasius in 496 A.D., though it was removed from the Roman calendar in 1969. Here in Spain, where the mobile industry is prepping to kick off Mobile World Congress today, Valentine's Day is known as "San Valentin."
