Mark Zuckerberg wants Facebook's minimum age limit to go

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg wants kids younger than 13 years on Facebook.

 Speaking at NewSchools Summit in the US, Zuckerberg said that younger children should be allowed on the site for education purposes.

According to a news report on Fortune, the Facebook CEO said that in the future, software and technology will enable people to learn a lot from their fellow students.

Presently, Facebook allows only people aged 13 and above to sign up for the site. However, it is quite esay to get around this as Consumer Reports recently reported that there are approximately 7.5 million underage kids on Facebook. However, Zuckerberg seems determined to change this. 'That will be a fight we take on at some point,' he said according to Fortune. He said that his philosophy is that for education one needs to start at a really, really young age.

He pointed out that due to restrictions we haven't even begun this learning process. According to

the article, he says that if allowed, Facebook will ensure that kids are safe on Facebook. 'If they're lifted then we'd start to learn what works. We'd take a lot of precautions to make sure that they (younger kids) are safe,' he reportedly said.

Interestingly, Facebook chief technology officer Bret Taylor recently appeared before US Congress, where he was grilled about underage kids on the site.

In March in a statement, Facebook said that it removes about 20,000 profiles from the site per day for a variety of policy violations, including spam, inappropriate content and underage use.

Lets meet youngest hacker,Jake Essman,14 year old Self Taught Hacker

Jake Essman a 14-Year-Old Self Taught Hacker is a New York native. A student at the United Nations School, teamed up with fellow engineers Jesse Leone, William Li, and  Feliks Beygel to create “buyby”,a shopping search engine. BuyBy is fairly simple—you use the site to find where a product is located at a store. So you could search for a ‘Red t-shirt’ and the search engine will not only show you a list of online stores that have that product, But it will also show you stores that sell the product nearby your location by considering your physical location based on your IP address.

Essman, who has been coding since he was ten, says that he decided to come to the TechCrunch Disrupt Hackathon(held at New York on 22^nd May 2011) at the urging of his Mom., Essman says that coding is a hobby, and this isn’t the first site he’s created. “RantingOutLoud” ,a forum where anyone can can complain about anything, is a also Jake Essman project. What’s more, he essentially taught himself how to code.

But for Essman, coding is still just a hobby and at this point, his career aspirations lie in the field of medicine as his goal is to become a doctor.

A Virtual View beneath the Skin
A device that projects anatomical images onto the body could help patients "see" their injuries—and encourage them to do their exercises.
Microsoft researchers have developed a handheld device that gives physical-therapy patients a virtual view beneath the skin to see what an injury looks like inside. The hope is that this will make them a little more eager to keep doing their therapies.

"People are notoriously bad at sticking to their physical therapy regimens," says Amy Karlson, of Microsoft Research's Computational User Experiences Group in Redmond, Washington. Between 30 and 50 percent of patients with chronic conditions fail to comply with their recommended therapies, she says. As a result, conditions can take longer to heal or can get even worse.

Karlson says the more information that patients have about their injuries, the more likely they are to comply with physical therapy regimens. The new tool, called AnatOnMe, aims to give patients that extra bit of information. The device projects an image of the underlying bone structure, muscle tissue, tendons, or nerves onto the skin, giving patients a better understanding of the injury, and of what they need to do to help the healing process, says Karlson.

The prototype device comes in two parts. The first contains a handheld, or pico, projector, an ordinary digital camera, and an infrared camera. The second contains a laser pointer and the control buttons. "The technology is somewhat low-tech," says Karlson, who presented the device this week in Vancouver at CHI 2011, the Association for Computing Machinery's Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems.

Instead of using a complicated autocorrection system to map the image of the internal injury precisely onto the patient's exterior, the therapist simply points the projector and lines it up by eye. And with the prototype, the images displayed are not actually taken from scans of the patients but come from stock graphical images used to show one of six different types of injury.

Even so, it appears to be very effective, says Karlson. Controlled experiments of the device carried out by two physical therapists suggest that the device encourages patients to stick to their therapies.

A doctor or therapist could also use AnatOnMe to project images onto a nearby wall. The user interface also works this way, says Karlson, with the menu options projected onto a surface. Options are selected using the laser pointer, which is detected by the infrared camera.

E. Anne Reicherter, a member of the American Physical Therapy Association at the University of Maryland-Baltimore School of Medicine, says physical therapy compliance is a major problem, partly because it usually involves exercise, and partly because it involves changing a habit or forgoing a behavior that may have caused the injury in the first place.

"But most patients are very interested in understanding what's going on in their body, so something like this that can visually assist them in truly understanding would be a real benefit," says Reicherter. Although, she adds, a certain portion of the population, particularly older patients, may find such visceral detail a bit of a turn off.

99% Android phones 'leak' personal data

According to University of Ulm researchers Bastian Konings, Jens Nickels, and Florian Schaub, Android smartphones leak login data for Google services, and could allow other access to information stored in the cloud. The researchers reportedly made the discovery while watching how Android phones handle login credentials for Web-based services. Almost 99.7% Android-based smartphones potentially leak user data which, if stolen, could be used to get information they store online.


Ulm Researchers say that the problem is in the way applications which deal with Google services request authentication tokens (several applications installed on Android phones interact with Google services through an authentication token). This token is essentially a digital ID card for that app, which once issued removes the need to keep logging in to a service for a given length of time.

Ulm Researchers discovered that many a times these tokens are sent in plain text over wireless network. This makes the tokens vulnerable to eavesdropping(To listen secretly to the private conversation of others.) by criminals on Wi-Fi networks. And once stolen, criminals can pose as the particular user with the token and extract his/her personal information.

As says the researchers in their research blog, "The implications of this vulnerability reach from disclosure to loss of personal information for the (Google) Calendar data. For Contact information, private information of others is also affected, potentially including phone numbers, home addresses, and email addresses. Beyond the mere stealing of such information, an adversary could perform subtle changes without the user noticing. For example, an adversary could change the stored email address of the victim's boss or business partners hoping to receive sensitive or confidential material pertaining to their business."

Here's what Android users can do to prevent this data leak:

• Update to Android 2.3.4. Update your phone to the current Android version as soon as possible. However, depending on your phone vendor you may have to wait weeks/months before an update is available for your phone. Hopefully this will change in the future.

• Switch off automatic synchronization in the settings menu when connecting with open WiFi networks.

• The best protection at the moment is to avoid open WiFi networks at all when using affected apps.
